I don’t dislike technology, really, I don’t. I have been known to thank my washer and dryer for doing a good job. I named one of my cars Talleyrand because the name suited its personality. I even apologized to my battery-operated kitchen waste can for attempting to deposit food waste in the wrong container.

I do confess I am more than a bit freaked out at the sight of twenty robots dancing, or a ten-foot-tall robot hanging from the ceiling of a warehouse then performing back flips on the floor. It makes me ask WHY?

I do have serious concerns about how rapidly Ai is being developed and deployed in the world. Many new technologies have had a sloppy implementation, often resulting in unnecessary damage to the environment and life itself. We shouldn’t have to go through another sloppy, ill-thought-out implementation with Ai. We need to proceed with caution on this one. It is too far reaching.

Along those lines, I highly recommend Adam Aleksic’s new book Algospeak How Social Media is Transforming the Future of Language. He provides a historic over-view of how language develops as well as a surprisingly up-beat view of our future.
