The Old Jogging Shoes circa 1990

 

“Left, right, left, right! I love that saying. Shows  how important I am,” said Lefty.

“Why in the world would some silly saying make you feel important? It just further emphasizes your basic insecurity,” replied Ms. Right.

“I don’t know, I think it’s kinda catchy – left, right, left, right!”

“Oh, do grow up! We’ve got work to do and you’re not pulling your weight. Focus, Lefty, focus!”

“Yeah, o.k. We’ve got at least a mile and half to go. Hey, wadda ya think of the new shoes? Pretty classy, huh?”

“Classy? You can’t be serious. In what world would pink and green shoes with flashing lights in the heel be considered classy? They are positively garish. If you had any taste at all, you would find them garish as well.”

“Humph. Yeah, well, I like em. You gotta admit, they are comfy.”

“I do agree with you there. I hardly notice the rubbed place on my right side. The shoes are well padded, and they are quite clean and rather sweet smelling.”

“Glad you agree.  After all, we might have our differences, but we do make a mighty fine team.”

“Yes, I must admit, in spite of our considerable differences, we do work rather well together.”

“You betcha!”

“Oh no, I think she’s going to jog!”

“Hang in there, Ms. Right. I know you can do it. Besides, you know it won’t last long.”

“I just hate the bumping around I get when she jogs. I still haven’t fully recovered from the last jog.”

“I know, but remember, she’s got new shoes – well-padded shoes – remember. The last time she jogged she wore those old broken-down stinky things.”

“You’re right, Lefty. I must admit that this isn’t too bad. As a matter of fact, I’m rather enjoying this jog.”

“Glad to hear it.”

“Oh, Lefty. She’s taking the shoes off! Does that mean what I think it does?’

“Hope so. Hey, I think you’re right! Here goooes!”

 

Both feet plopped into a basin of warm, soapy, fragrant, water. Heaven!
